Value of tree wood

In my Mom's garden she has a large old cherry tree. It is now dangerously large and needs to be taken out. She is in her 70's and has been quoted £580 to have it taken down. I am wondering if the wood is saleable to a wood turner or any other profession rather than it being just scrapped? The trunk is large and quite straight. It must have a value to someone!

Does that price include taking away the wood?

Try your local Freecycle or Freegle group. Make it conditional on the lot to go away. Don't expect the root to be removed in fact handy as a feature.

The contractor may have built into the price he gave you the money he can get by selling the wood.

I just advertised mine as free to remove in gumtree and a nice guy came with his chainsaw and spent hours chopping and taking away apple tree and pear tree wood.
