My husband has somehow managed to get some black oil from a bike chain on our cream carpet (long story).. I have tried some rug doctor solution but its not touching it. Would be really grateful if anyone knows of a way or a product that might work. Dont want to keep putting things on randomly in case I set the stain in. Wondered if Stain Devils would may be work.

Kill husband.
Roll corpse up in carpet and dispose of both.
Buy new carpet.
(Serious answer - I can't help much I'm afraid but do you know what the carpet's made from, e.g. wool, synthetic fibres...? I think the answer might depend on that.)0 -
Chances are it's grease rather than oil. But either way my first weapon of choice would be washing up liquid (sadly I have rather too much experience of the same circumstances
) and elbow grease.
Use a clean white cloth with just a drop of liquid (neat) on it and work it around in small circular motion. To remove the liquid, keep rinsing the cloth and rubbing. Do small sections at a time. Good luck
But I'm liking CupOfChai's solution aswell0 -
You could try Swarfega - grease and oil remover. I like Oil of Eucalyptus ( available chemists) because it wont make the stain worse. How big is the stain?0

Thank you, that did make me laugh CupOfChai. I bought some stain devil yesterday but only just found the courage to try it as it says not for use on carpets. Its fine and its almost come out. Might give it another go but I think I can only see I know it was there.
Thanks for your help.0 -
i second fairy liquid too - if it cuts through food / cooking grease then it should work well on the bike grease too.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
