Wii remote problem

Hi,
Does anyone know whats wrong with my Wii remotes?
Worked ok at the weekend but today both seem to be dead.I have tried new batteries in both. I've tried to re sync & the four lights flash then go off leaving nothing.
I'm thinking it's a problem with the console as both remotes wouldn't break at the same time.
Anyone any experience of this.
18 months ago we had the console repaired by Nontendo as it had a disc read error, but this doesn't seem to be the same.
Any help greatfully received
