We quite often make promotional USB keys were I work. We almost always have the clients content on a partition which is very difficult, if not impossible to format. It shows up as two separate drives in Windows. One which you can use, and one which autoplays the preloaded content and is not formattable. I expect that you won't get a lot of storage for your 85p.

should be very easy for someone will only a little knowledge to format.

all you need to do is zerofill the drive which will blank the drive so it is as it come out of the factory, nothing on it!

you can either reset the partitions using fdisk or not its up to you.

then format the drive and bingo youre away with a completely new drive for 85p :)

if offering free devices they should be one in every paper.

People steal things that are given away in papers though (believe it or not), that's probably why things like this are voucher redeemable.

So if whsmith runs out of free easter eggs or free usb sticks, then what happens?
is it "sorry tough luck" or are you able to claim the freebie some other way?
Hi Puddings - I'm more interested in how you get so many Tesco Clubcard points - Care to share ?

If they are only small capacity you have to ask whether you would get much use from it, even if only 85p plus your time.

There are plenty of Ebay sellers offering 2GB and 4GB models at quite good prices (£8-£15), many with P+P included.

Not everybody needs masses of space. I have a small 16MB one I still use for keeping all my documents from work on. If I can get a larger one for free then all the better, but I certainly wouldnt pay for a large capacity I would never use.
  • I used to work for WHSmith and the free stuff given away with newspapers was always a nightmare - CDs and things we usually got enough of but most other times they wouldn't get delivered, or would come late, or we'd only get about 5 in.

My advice if you don't usually buy the paper is to buy the paper from whsmith itself - then if they dont have any you can always refuse to buy the paper! Sometimes if they have sold out of the paper as well you can get it by buying a different newspaper. But please don't be too quick to judge the staff for lack of stock!
I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right
