O/S Daily Monday 23rd March 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, clear and dry and very frosty. Load in WM, will put it out on the line if it’s done before I leave for work.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. Will get DS2 up shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner yesterday was a frozen stuffed chicken breast joint, roast potatoes, veg, Yorkshires and gravy – all convenience food but helps so much with no real prep, so I can get it cooking, and then get on with unpacking, organising pack-ups, and making sure we’re all ready for work/school for today.

Yesterday we got back from being away lunchtime, and went straight back out – as our local caravan engineer had his open weekend – which we have always supported but this year the event we attended is normally next weekend but due to availability of our Chairman it was moved a week – all events seem to have gone well, although at ours there wasn’t as many people as we would have liked, but the content was excellent and feedback informative. There was only a small group of us staying at the site so everyone went out together for dinner on Saturday night – which was lovely. Now not away for several weeks, although we do have things planned, and we’re going away to visit my sister and her family for Easter. We also need to start the major declutter of the house and loft – we have so much stuff.

Back to work for me today, it will be busy as the bills have hit the mats, so now in our manic weeks! Days fly by though!

    Keep safe and well x

    Good morning everyone.

Back to rainy grey skies today. So glad we had the lovely weather at the weekend.

By the time I got back from the airport yesterday I only had enough left in me to heat up some left over chilli and pour the dregs of wine, sit down to eat / drink and then go to bed. We had a lovely time though.

After spending a long time looking for a 'perfect' bathroom cabinet I eventually asked my local carpenter to make one...it arrived on Saturday and is a thing of beauty. He's used leftover oak and put mirrors on both sides of the two doors. I can now see the back of my head, which really isn't as interesting as I'd been led to believe!

Today I will be eating / freezing food from the weekend. Then I have a couple of programmes to watch and a bit of prep for work tomorrow. Only got three days left. :):)

Hope everyone has a good day.

Grey and wet here but no worries as it was such a glorious weekend! Saturday was particularly good, wall to wall sunshine all day so loads of washing dried, raised beds put together and filled with compost, grass cut and lots of general tidying up done outside (inside is a disaster though!).

Yesterday was dry and breezy but not so much sunshine so was a lot cooler. Still more washing dried and the rest of the garden beds sorted and the little greenhouse built with the help of DD.

Went out for breakfast yesterday, it was great, will definitely do that again, the city was quiet and relaxed at that time.

tru - little Scampy looks a real character, you are lucky to have found each other, I hope he settles in quickly.
Gers, glad you enjoyed your visitors, only 3 more days! You must be beside yourself!

DD is now very excited, she goes off to South Africa for 3 weeks early tomorrow morning, the house is such a mess with her trying to get everything sorted out, it's her last day at work today. I have been detailed to take her to the airport at 3.30 tomorrow morning, tomorrow is going to be a long day!

Have a good week everyone, take care. XX

Good morning one and all. We had a glorious day yesterday for a change. I'd almost forgotten what sun felt like!! Alas the cloud is back with us today but no rain forecast so that's something!

We had a run to Home B..........s yesterday to get all our caravan supplies for the upcoming season - toiletries, cleaning stuff, store cupboard items etc, I spent a small fortune but I think HB are as cheap as anywhere for stuff like that. We thought we would have a run over Wednesday to take it all across, plus the bedding still to take and the heaters to check. Then it's ready for habitation!

We have Mr TA's appointment at Leeds tomorrow to see the consultant and have his 3rd injection. I thought he was doing really well but yesterday he said he had some odd pains he hasn't had before. It's a worry, it's like living with a time bomb. We know the injections are not a cure but their aim is to keep him at the level he is now for as long as poss.

Well I have a pile of ironing to tackle today and must flick the duster around at some point and vac up the weekend's bits! I came across some herb seed sticks I had forgotten about and might pop them in some compost today and see if anything happens. They were a "freebie" thrown from the McCain sponsor van when we were awaiting the Yorkshire leg of the Tour de France to pass through Ripon last summer.

Have a good day all whatever you are up to. Take care xx

    Good Morning All,

    I hope everyone is well.

Hectic weekend here even though i was never over the doorstep. Spent most of the time tidying garden, refelting the shed and chopping logs. I finally finished my big crochet blanket so my next crafty project will be knitting myself a cardi, just have to decide on a pattern now.

Weekend weather was lovely, there is a little wind today and it looks promising this morning.

I have my usual big list of chores for a Monday so i better go and make a start.

Have a warm, safe and happy day everyone,

    Regards

    Morning :hello:

A Polish family bought the house two doors away from us a while ago, we've seen them out and about to say hello to but hadn't spoken properly. They invited us round for 5pm yesterday, they'd prepared Polish food for us to try. Not a meal, but lots of snacky food. I was a bit nervous – I'm a ham roll/roast dinner/fish and chips type of person, the most exotic thing I eat is a spag bol :D It looked lovely though and I tried a bit of everything. When things are calmer here, they're going to pop round so their children can meet the chickens and collect their own eggs :D

We didn't stay late, the mini-mes were going out and I didn't want to leave Scampi on his own for more than about 20 mins, it's too soon for that. When we opened the front door, he was sooooo excited to see us :D At bedtime, he came up a couple of times and tried to get in our room but soon gave up and stayed in his basket all night. I was expecting a couple of accidents during the night but he waited til I let him out this morning :T I'm finding it a bit difficult to train him – not because of him, he seems to be a fast learner – but because he puts on his cute puppy baby face and I want to give in :rotfl:

First walks out today, we'll go out four times but just around the block for now. It'll only take a few minutes each time so he won't get too stressed if he sees other people or dogs. Or bikes, vans and buses. Or anything :D He's very nervous of anything new.

I need to give the house the good tidy up, how did it get in such a mess after just three days? :D

  • Morning (((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one,

Bright and sunny, I have the bed linen in the washer, we are forecast rain later so want to get it out and as dry as possible before I have to bring it in.

OH has an appointment to collect his dental plate at lunchtime, parking in Melton is a nightmare, it costs 70p to park anywhere for an hour. I will be sneaking into Sainsbugs car park for 10 minutes or so before I go and pick him up.

All fabric stashed away neat and tidy no more rifling through boxes to get the bit at the bottom!!

Monday clean to do, should not take too long, I did the sewing room floor last night after I finished sorting/cutting the fabric.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Brrr, it's back to cold and grey weather here this morning after a beautiful weekend. Never mind, I am well wrapped up and have planned lots of little jobs around the house to keep warm. I have put a load of washing on and will go and start peeling veg for a stew that I'm planning for tomorrows tea. I'm making a pork curry for tea tonight so I will sort that out too whilst I have the energy.

Poor DD15 is full of cold but I've made her go to school as she has had so much time off recently but I am expecting a call from the school nurse to say she is on her way back home. The others have gone off to work/school ok. Hubby is very happy as he is only working till Thursday afternoon as he has some hours left out of his allowance.

I've had a letter from my GP asking me to book for my annual MOT so I will be arranging that this afternoon. I haven't been to see him since my last check up a year ago so that's good. He is lovely though and happy to let me be. I had a dreadful weekend mood wise but feel a lot better today so hopefully that will carry on.

I will try and get some baking done today as well. I have a few visitors coming this week so I would like to offer them something homemade. I'm thinking lemon shortbread and white chocolate brownies. I would also like to make a rice pudding with some coconut milk I've had in the cupboard for ages. Certainly got enough to keep me out of mischief for a while.

Well that's all my waffle for now, Tru - your Scampi looks gorgeous, a real cheeky boy. Hope you all have a great day, take care xx
