You should respond informing her of the unsuitability of this and then get an a/l procedure implimented.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

Just check and make sure you are doing everything you are responsible for, have you done all the risk assessments correctly for example?Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
i just said it was OK ( couldn't really say anything else) and i will talk to her tomorrow. just wanted to be sure of what i was saying to her beforehand.
she's going away for a week in august, so i have to fit my holiday around when she can take me to the train station!
i really don't mind her having her choice of time off, but its making things difficult for me.
she already comes to work late on a monday because she's started a college course.
she is very willing, but it feels more and more that i let her work when she feels like it rather than when i want her to
thats my fault though
thanks for your help, its much appreciated0 -
Booking the holiday then letting you know is taking the proverbial, in my book. You'd be well within your rights to say no and she ends to know that so part of the conversation probably needs to be around your expectations of how things are done from here on in.
She's onto a good thing at the moment so however you approach it she's probably going to feel hard done by. Perhaps show her last years records, say you hadn't fully realised the effect, then take it from there. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Lets be clear what are the contractual hours, and rate of pay.
are the 28 days holiday all of them or are the BH on top of that?
When is the holiday year?
I would make sure there is plenty of work to do for the other periods.
What's the current back up for holidays and sick?
How far ahead do you plan your times away?0 -

my social worker did all that.
all that was left was for me to sort out the payroll and liability insurance0 -
I would say in her defense she might not realise how many holidays she has taken this year, as her employer she would be expecting you to keep a record of this. When I book holidays I have to fill in a simple form stating years entitlement, days taken/booked to date, days left. I suggest you do something similar so it is clear to both of you how much time she has left to take.
Having said that she does tend to be taking advantage a bit and treating you as her friends mother rather than an employer. What is the course she is doing, will it help her in her job being your PA or is it unrelated, if I wanted to go a college course I might get time off work but only if it was work related and would be a benefit to my employer. Also I hope you are paying her less due to the reduced hours.
Maybe the holiday issue would be a good time to bring up the subject of a formal contract (could you get help from your social worker to write one).
I realise it must be difficult in your situation to find a good PA you need one you can rely on and trust but at the same time don't let yourself be taken advantage of.0 -
this is the scary bit .... we don't actually have a contract!
its my friends daughter and she has worked for me for 3 years.
i was adding up her holiday for last year, because she wants good friday off.
she has already gone over her holiday entitlement for this year, but if you add in the working days when she didn't work because i was away ... she has had 51 paid holiday days this tax year !
Why does she not have work to do when you are away.
If gone over this year you could have a claim for overpayment of wages.0 -

they include bank holidays. she works some bank holidays, but not xmas or easter
the holiday year is april to april as she started working for me in april 2012
she doesn't take many sick days, and when she's on holiday i rely on friends checking in on me.
i can't leave her work or 'arrange' work. her job is helping ME with whatever help i need. if i am not there ... there is NO work.
i go away the same time every year. the week before easter i go to london, the whitsun holidays i go to my parents and the first week in december i go to london. i go to london again, the last week of august. it never varies.0
