I want this to end...

I have been planning to go bankrupt for the last few months but I was on JSA for 2 months and the money I got when I was made redundant went on moving to a cheaper area.

I got a new job a couple of weeks ago, the money is ok but not enough for me to start paying all my debts again... The thing is I don't have the money to go bankrupt, how do people do it??

I've just had to pay out £118 in vet's fees (which I will claim for on the insurance) and the bank has started charging me excess overdraft charges!!! I don't get paid till the 31st August!

I have no friends or family who can lend me the money, I just don't see an end to this anymore, I was so positive before that it would all work out ok! :(

Hi Miss Muppet.Welcome to the board.
Have you been to see the cab yet?
When it all got to much for me thats were I went first, then discovers this site and the BCSC all of them insited I get further advice from the debt charites.
Like you we had no one to ask to help with the fees, cab sugessted we stop paying everything except rent, council tax, utilitys, insurance and day to day costs and save the money for the fees.It took us 2 months. We had letters and calls from our creditors who we told we were taking advice from cab ect .Some said ok get back to us when you come up with a plan others tried to push for payment.Stand firm.
I am sure others will be along give you even better worded advice as the support and information on here is wonderful.

Miss Muppet just to be a bit clearer-
CAB -local branchask for money advisor will probably require appointment.
Consumer Credit Counciling Service (cccs)-email or phone.
    National Debt Line-email or phone.
Payplan-(CAB will recommend you talk you these people to) email or phone.
They make no judgements only give free advice .
    Hope this helps.

I've not been to the CAB, I have been managing my debts for about 4 years now paying my creditors less than what it should be. It's now got to this point, well it's been at this point since the beginning of this year! Getting made redundantI thought I would be able to sort things out but moving cost more than I anticipated.

I've not been paying any creditors since I was unemployed so I can't even save any of that money as all the money I have in the bank right now is for bills and food.

It's so frustrating that you have to pay to go BR, if I had the money for that I could pay off a debt!

Thanks for this but it's not advice I'm looking for really, I've been in this situation a long time and it's not the first time I've posted on here, I decided a while ago I was going BR... it's more about finding the money to do it that I'm frustrated with!

The forms are all filled in, now I just need the funds to do it...

are you a current or former customer of british gas, they have a charitable arm who will help with fees, there are others, go to CAB for details and advice, bankruptcy is last option, you need to consider all your options. good luck.

I opened a Nationwide account when I was first unemployed but it only comes with a cash card so doing anything online is really difficult that's why I still have the other one... although it's useless now with no overdraft left!

All my creditors are receiving token payments which total £8 a month! I could stop paying them altogether but really don't want the baliffs round, so just trying to keep them sweet at the moment.

I am still waiting for a housing benefit cheque I'm owed but not sure how muc that is... so that could go towards it as my rent will be paid by my salary this month! :)

Miss Muppet I must agree with Blind as a Bat.We went BR in June as I said we had paid no one from April until that time some of the creditors are still sending statements requesting payment non have yet got to the point of saying they will send the bailiff. Not that they can now.

Not really but I've had arrangements in place for so long now I just think eventually that's the way it's going to go... I was paying £100 a month but now it's only £8 so not too bad, especially as I now have a job! I just can't see a way of raising the money to actually go bankrupt.

Depending on how much HB I get I might be able to do this but my rent is half of my salary and I'm guessing (as I haven't been paid yet) after bills and stuff I won't have much left each month... I could manage it, maybe I need to be more patient, I've never been any good at saving... I guess that shows! :o

Miss Muppet I have never been able to save either the less I had the more I spent but Oh! the wonderful feeling of just keeping things under control at the moment is brill.Next step is to try and save some money for us,like you (sorry your situation is slow not you personaly) it will be a very slow process as it will be only a tiny amount each month but its a new skill I would like to aquire.
Im sorry you are finding things such hard going and hope that your HB and pet insurance will help ease things a little soon.
