Tattoo Apprenticeship - Mature Apprentice Funding?

Hello,
My partner, having always been very artistic, is now working towards a change in career. He has already managed to find a job in a tattoo studio, which is fine though very low wage, but another studio has shown interest in taking him on as an apprentice tattooist.
We both want him to go for it, however we have a house to run and a baby on the way. Someone mentioned there may be funding or grants available to mature apprentices though I am not sure if this would apply to tattooing, but rather construction etc. and I can't seem to find much info online. We are both aware of the industry in that tattoo apprentices do not usually get paid at all, I'm just interested to see if anyone knew if there is anything out there (Scotland).
