Halifax mortgages A/ roll numbers issue

Hi everyone, is there a solution to this - not being able to apply online when switching to a new mortgage rate with Halifax?

I'd like to apply online to switch from a 2-yr fixed which is coming to an end, to another 2-yr fixed rate. From what I understand if I apply online Halifax won't do affordability checks (they only do them over the phone or in branch) - but it looks like in my case I can't apply online, because of what is seemingly a minor issue - my mortgage roll number starts with A/? Even though I'd like to switch to a lower interest rate, I might have some affordability issues on paper...

"You'll only be able to apply online if you've a 14 digit account number. You'll have either a 14 digit account number or it'll start with 'A/'."

Why wasn't your A/- account migrated to the 10/- system?

Is it interest-only, or lending into retirement, by any chance?

I don't know why it wasn't migrated. It's not interest-only and it's not lending into retirement either.

Give 'em a ring and ask them why?

One year ago when I spoke with them they said it will be migrated at some point but they couldn't give me a timeframe... so there is no solution other than applying on the phone/branch IF they don't/can't/won't migrate it?

  • Change the A to a 10; take out the slash, and replace the dash towards the end with a 0, and add enough 0's on the end to make a 14 digit sort code/account number, and put this in the 'Account Number' box.

Halifax's system won't recognise it in the Roll Number box but will in the Account Number box, if in the right format.

    E.g. A/12345678-9 becomes 10123456780900.

You can often 'fool' Halifax's system with an A/ number.

It doesn't seem to be working. None of the below applies... I'll call them to see if they can migrate the account.

Sorry, we can't switch your mortgage online

This might be for any of the following reasons.

You haven't entered the correct mortgage account number, property postcode and/or date of birth
Your mortgage is a Buy-to-Let or you have Consent-to-Let on your current mortgage
You may have missed a payment, which includes being on a payment holiday
You'd have early repayment charges to pay
You've changed your address or Direct Debit account in the last 90 days
  • Have you definitely entered all personal details as they are recorded on Halifax's system? This is a common one if you don't put all middle names, for example?

Could just be that it can't be found - you will need to call and explain that you have no option to do online.

I don't get to the screen where it asks for my name. I completed the first page with mortgage number, post code, and date of birth, then the next screen gave me the error message.
