Car valuation...

How do I find out the value of my car if it's older than a P plate, i've tried the parkers site and if you're car is older than a P, you have to pay for a valuation and it's my understanding that the OR uses parkers as a guide for valuation.
I tried the What Car website and it doesn't have my actual model on there.
The car cost me £190 back in march, it's dented all over, quite beat up, scratched alloys and such as it was used as a daily back and forth car to a building site, it also has a wing thats a different colour to the rest of the body so i'm sure it would be worth much less than any actual valuation. Drivers seat is also coming lose, brakes are on their way out too, but it's a lovely little thing, lol!

It's worth scrap. I'd not be worrying about losing it.0

Cheers guys, I did manage to find a valuation eventually and it came up as £695 in good condition, parkers may be different, but considering the condition the car is in, i'd say it's worth even less than I paid. It's an M reg vauxhall corsa 1.5D btw.
Just found a minute chip in the windscreen too, lolBankrupt 14/08/07, Early discharge granted 14/02/07...exactly 6 months later0 -

I'd say that if you've got a receipt for that, why not that take as proof of value? Cheap cars are notoriously hard to value as the bottom's pretty much fallen out of that market.0 -

No receipt i'm afraid, my gf's dad sorted it out for me as a favour from a guy he works with, i'm sure that if called/written to that the guy would be happy to clarify what I paid..would this be good enough?Bankrupt 14/08/07, Early discharge granted 14/02/07...exactly 6 months later0 -

Yep. The value of any car in that price bracket is whatever the hell you can get for it.;)
That was the last time a value was placed upon it.
As always with cars, make sure you have prepared your case as to why you should be allowed to keep it. Although cars of this value are not routinely claimed by the OR it is also not unknown, so be prepared to fight your corner if you want to keep it.Experiment626 wrote: »No receipt i'm afraid, my gf's dad sorted it out for me as a favour from a guy he works with, i'm sure that if called/written to that the guy would be happy to clarify what I paid..would this be good enough?
I expect that would be fine. I'm sure the OR will be looking for an excuse not to go to the hassle of recovering it anyway.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I've been thinking about this a fair bit and as i'll be primarily doing agency work here and there for the first few weeks/months that i'll need a car to get to places at short notice, if I get a call at 7am asking me to be somewhere at 8am, it's a bit of a pain working out bus/trains routes even if they are on time for a change, he he!Bankrupt 14/08/07, Early discharge granted 14/02/07...exactly 6 months later0 -
If you're doing agency work is there any way to get a letter from the/an agency you're working with to show that having your own transport is a requirement?0

Sounds fair enough to me.The onus is on you to make your case to the OR in your interview.
As I said, as long as your OR isn't a pain (most aren't) they will probably be glad of an excuse not to have to go to all the hassle and paperwork of claiming a car of this value.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

This is probably a good idea, i'm not 100% that I will be doing agency work yet, but i'm going to be open to getting pretty much any work I can as soon as I move.Bankrupt 14/08/07, Early discharge granted 14/02/07...exactly 6 months later0
