Scared: wisdom tooth-half broken

My wisdom tooth is half broken but I have been told that other half will need to be removed. My dentist is not happy to do this since the root is too near the trigeminal nerve so he referred me to dental hospital.
I have agreed to be done (under local anasthetic ) but warned that there is a risk of permanent facial paralyses if the nerve is damaged but risk small.
I don’t have any pain from this. The only annoying thing is that food gets trapped after every meal.
I am not sure whether to take this risk. Anyone who was in similar situation can share their experience with me?

The thing is that you don't really have the option to not have it done. Eventually decay will eat into it and you'll be in agony, maybe have an abcess and have to get it done anyway. Everyone is warned of this risk, it's probably a minute risk at that. I'd go for it and get it taken out now. I had all of mine taken out at the same time and they were fine.
Good luck with it!:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -

I went to the dentist years ago with a similar problem with bit of a hole in my wisdom tooth - actually it was more of a bit of wisdom tooth left in the hole. It had broken off (strangely no pain) and was cutting into my cheek. That hurt more than the tooth.
I had it removed at the dentist. Local anaesthetic, one quick twist and a pull and Bob's your uncle!I'd have that done every time in preference to having a scale and polish (front lower teeth v sensitive). No pain, no bruising, no after effects.
Good Luck
You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Hi there,
I went through a similar thing - my wisdom tooth wasn't broken but the root was very near the nerve so I had to see a specialist to get it removed
The dentist even had to saw half of my tooth off to get it out but I swear there was absolutely no pain.
Bascially everything has a small risk when it comes to anaesthetic (whether local or general). They just have to make you aware so they don't get sued if anything goes wrong (and why should it - they have prefromed thousands of similar operations)
Please don't worry - I was fine apart from some serious swelling but nothing more than what you'd suspect.
Go for it and good luck!

i am the biggest wimp wen it comes to pain and i had my wisdom tooth removed last month. It wasnt sore at all....and i had sleepless nights over it beforehand as i was soooooooo scared!!!
Just swelling for 4days and cudnt open mouth really wide due to it but thats about it. I took regualr painkillers though. I would say get it removed, ull be a much happier person lol!0
