I have worked a lot of additional hours over the Las six years. I enjoy my job so I don't mind. I am a software developer. There is no policy for overtime in my contract.

I brought it up in my last 121 and my line manager suggested taking a few days leave without filling in a form ie it will not count towards my quota.

Has anyone done this before? I don't want to be seen as an inflexible employee who complains about extra hours. It seems reasonable to me.

No way would I consider this, it sounds very dodgy. What happens if your relationship with your manager turns sour a few months down the line, and it comes to light you were away from the office with no paperwork to back this up.

I'd be requesting something official along the lines of flexible working where you can take some hours back or overtime going forward, even if it means no payment for additional hours already done.
