New Amazon tool that lets you search Amazon worldwide

Hello!

Has anyone used http://www.curiua.com/? It lets you search Amazon UK and compare it against the international Amazon sites, like France, Germany and Spain to see if there product you want is cheaper there.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has used it or what you guys think about it? We're wondering if it's one to add to the guide!

Many thanks,
Tara

It (the one in the original post) appears to work for me.

  • Yet the cheapest prices are on Amazon USA, even factoring VAT and import duty in. I hope I get my Travelex supercard in April so I'll say goodbye to cross-currency charges.

Interesting, don't you also get hit with additional "admin charges" from carriers like Fedex etc?

Yes, you do, but if you use Amazon Global, there's an option to pay VAT at the source. Customs duty is only from £120 and above including shipping.

I usually buy cheap electronics on Amazon US from Chinese sellers for less than £15 and free shipping. There's no charge if the total value including shipping is less that £15.

This is good for spare parts, batteries, cases, supplements, etc.

I've used them a couple of times. Both times, the Chrome browser automatically offered to translate the page to English. The translation isn't perfect, but it's a doddle if you've used the UK Amazon before. Our first purchase was a replacement Bosch remote control for our garage doors (they were here when we moved!). UK cost £90 delivered, German cost £56 delivered. It arrived in 3 days.

We also have just started moving to Sonos for our music system (replacing our 30-year-old CD player and 40-year-old hand-me-down amp!), and the Italian shop had the simplest model for £129 delivered (on offer) compared to £179 in the UK (or 2 for £300)

So the savings are considerable, and they even recognise that you're in the UK and offer to do the deal in £ sterling to save on possible FX costs on your card - check on Google for the comparative rates to see if it's worthwhile for you. We're extremely happy but we've not had to try out the returns yet. The only minor issue is that I now get promotional emails from both in their respective languages, which the browser won't automatically translate as the email page is basically English - you just need to put the key phrases into Google translate.

Most browsers with have an extension that translates the page for you automatically. Safari now has one that uses Bing for the translation, works well.
  • Great saved £120 on my purchase of a Dyson V6 Absolute from Germany using the tool but Dyson will not honour the guarantee as it was bought outside the UK. Did your MSE colleague experience the same issue?
