Wonga Redress ….. Anyone completed?

Options
So, I have had an email from conga saying they are trying to contact me regard the redress issue in 2010.

I rang them and as I had moved address since this time I hadn't been getting the letters they were sending.

So as the story goes - I was an apprentice at the time, and got the 1000 loan out on a silly silly APR to move. This was because at the time I was in a council property and experiencing bad antisocial behavior (long story but it had been going on for a number of months and the council/police weren't doing anything as no one would talk about the local ASBO's from fear of repercussions obviously …. ) I tried various route to get out and I was only 6 months from completion of my apprenticeship so I felt at the time the only option was too get the loan from Bond and 1st Months rent on a private rented house - Like Mr Lewis says…. Payday loans are taken out sheer desperation, its not a sob story it was a bad situation I was in, and I plan, I know its bad but was to not pay it and then following my wage increase after 6 months pay it back. Please don't judge, but that was the choice I made and I have suffered from it with my credit report now being 26 and only 20ish at the time.

Any way, I started to get these letters and moved, so they stopped but was still sent emails. So I was one of the customers effected. Anyway. Moving into private rented I was scared whit less paid them off resulting in paying back nearly 2500 over a couple of years. I even got the debt letters when I was paying my payment plan still threatening. When I queried it over the phone they told me to ignore them, yet I still spent the whole time I was paying worrying I would have people knocking at my front door.

So I rang them yesterday and they are sending the letter out with offer of compensation ect ect. But at the time I was under the doctor for depression following the trauma of the last few years.

I have seen that Mr Lewis says 50 compensation is what is being offered well to be honest, a few years ago I would have just accepted but now I have a lot more fight in me and don't feel that its fair for what I was put though during a time of my life which was horrendous anyway!

So my question is…. has anyone had their redress letters and fought it?

I am working hard to repay all my debts and get my credit score back on track so this could really be a ray of light for the dark time I went through with them! :A

    Hello

It seems that you've had a tough time over the years but its good to see that you're getting back on track.

There's alot of useful information on the Wonga website if you're unhappy with your redress amount. You can see it here
    wongaredress information.

Once you've done everything that they suggest and if you're still unhappy then you can ask us to look into your complaint.

    You can contact us at paydayhelp@financial-ombudsman.org.uk or calling 0300 123 9 123.

    Kind regards
    Sarah

I have no idea what the going rate is but common sense would tell me that companies try to pay the least they can get away with. Go for it see what happens, by challenging them you are very unlikely to end up worse off!

  • Thanks guys, I will up date with what they offer me, but I like Mr Lewis' example of the break down saying we should get something along the lines of 34 million haha!

I have spoken to my sister who ironically is a solicitor and she is calling one of her friends who deals with stuff like this. My sister said what you said Andy, basically the only think I will loose by arguing it is time and a lot of people will settle straight out because they just want the money as soon as.

    Thanks again :)

I was contacted by them last year, and I updated my details...funnily enough that was the last I heard from them. I've emailed them and I have written to them but absolutely nothing back.

Finally, since trying since January to get an answer I referred this to the Financial Ombudsman and they're taking up the case for me. Still, today marks a week since they were given four days to call me!

I got my letter today and have accepted the £50 as I had no hardship, when any letters were (presumably) coming about the loan I hadn't paid I was out of the country and so saw no letters. Just personal circumstances I guess. Easiest £50 I ever got!
  • I'd say you deserve at least £10,000! Wonga shouldn't have expected you to pay back the loan that's just mean
