Mother FOMO

Or how Snapchat (revenues ~$0) is worth more than Campbells Soup

Here's the secret to how Silicon Valley calculates the value of its hottest companies: The numbers are sort of made-up. For the most mature startups, investors agree to grant higher valuations, which help the companies with recruitment and building credibility, in exchange for guarantees that they'll get their money back first if the company goes public or sells. They can also negotiate to receive additional free shares if a subsequent round's valuation is less favorable. Interviews with more than a dozen founders, venture capitalists, and the attorneys who draw up investment contracts reveal the most common financial provisions used in private-market technology deals today.

  • About time we had another Dot.com bust.

I think Tesco had a different meaning for FOMO after the little fiasco last year. They told Philip Clarke to 'FOMO' [F Off & Move On.]

I had the realisation this morning that I do actually prefer a physical newspaper afteral! With reading it on my I-pad I have to put up with clicking on an article that I might then find is a bore, and then have to click back to the home page, this all takes time especially on pages laden with ads and vids and I often find myself clicking off a newspaper site as a result become I find it all a bit laborious and tedious.

I think tastes are changing and whilst some tech is a benefit, we soon tire of and get over some of it and will return to old fashioned concepts such as real newspapers..

I'm wanting a proper record player as I find MP3's in many ways unengaging - I loose content and don't value it in digital form. Even CD has not lived up to the promise, many of my CD's have become unusable (they freeze up for example), and yet the old records in my loft are still largely playable.

We were quick to throw away the old, but I foresee lots of it coming back into fashion.

    Great idea.

Gives me hope for today's 14 year olds.

Like us boomers, we will again have floods of paper boys (and girls) getting up at 6:30, all weathers, to go out for an hour to earn a couple of shillings.

Unlike Gen-X and Gen-Y, they will learn the value of money, the meaning of work, the satisfaction of getting something for themselves rather than sponge off others, and the free education from reading a variety of front pages........

I think I was only about 15 when I grasped the huge correlation between (a) run-down council house, with wire fence bent double, 23 year old rusting scooter in the front garden.... with the Daily Mirror, or (b) pristine house, nice floral front garden, mowed lawns.... with the Telegraph or Times.

    Those were the days.......

I'll never forget the Saturday morning, riding home from the newsagents after completing my round, and the £1 note that was my weekly wages, flew out of my pocket and was lost.

That certainly taught me a life lesson.

BACS payments only from now on
