So, for months we are bombarded with news that there should be a minimum price for alcohol. Then that goes quiet and the Chancellor drops the alcohol duty. Strange.

Nothing surprising or strange about it. Every budget a penny gets knocked off a pint. Must be fantastic if your a hardcore alcoholic.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

There's a general election in May.
These things go in cycles. Put everything up for 3 years, then drop everything a few pence just before you're about to get voted out.0 -
So........ if you drank 2 pints of beer EVERY day (who ever just has the one??) for the next year you'd save £7.30. Hardly a great give-away really is it!!!!!
Buy 730, get 2 free !! :beer:0 -

Minimum prices can only be introduced voluntarily because of EU regulations and the drink companies and the retailers do not want to do this. Presumably it is because hey just do not like the idea of sharing confidential information on profit margins etc. with competitors in order to come up with a voluntary agreement that all businesses who either sell drinks or make it can sign up to.0
