Declaring a house repossession - Help!

Hi,

Can anyone help?

I had my house repossessed over 7 + years ago.

The answer is, is there a register where it shows i had a house previously repossessed?

I have been reading a lot on the Internet and i have read that there used to be a CML register where any possessions used to be added on to this, however it says that this and any info that was on this register was destroyed back in June 2010 and since then any repossessions were notified on the 2 main credit experts (experian and equifax) is this correct or is there any where else that when applying for a mortgage can this be found?

I will always declare when applying for a mortgage, however when i applied for a mortgage they asked for me to provide info regarding my repossession which i couldn't. I even wrote to the mortgage lender who repossessed my house and they wrote back and advised that because it was over 6 years they no longer hold this info due to DPA!

Please can any one advise?

James Jones from Experian thinks the same as well, so unless the lack of that info itself is causing problems, then seems OK. :)

Well i contacted Experian in the week and asked the same question and they advised that after 6 years i probably wouldn't need to declare it!

But its that question on any mortgage application "have you ever had a property repossessed".

However after reading on GOV.UK website under Repossession it says - Buying another property
You must tell any new mortgage lender that your previous home was repossessed. This could make getting a new mortgage hard.

Your previous lender may be able to claim some of the proceeds of your new home if you still owe them money when you sell it.

Is this why it has to be declared due to the above statement? If so i do not owe any money to lender who repossessed my property (in fact the house sold for more than what was owed)!

That's a weird slightly nonsensical thing to put on the .gov website.

    Exactly what i am thinking!

I just do not see a reason to why it would need to be disclosed - Bankruptcy - yes but repossession - No.

Thanks again for your help :D

Just to add - This is why i will apply through Leeds Building Society as they consider ex Bankrupts and repossessions as long as past 6 + years ago.
