Help With Council Tax Advice

Hi Guys,
I would like some advice please. I received a council tax final notice on 11th Match 2015 asking for payment of £64.42 before the 25th March 2015 to avoid being issued with a summons. I paid that amount on 14/03/2015.
However today I received a bill for £180.00 plus summons cost of £120.00. The summons date is 11/03/2015 - I believe I owe £180.00 for council tax but don't see why I should be asked to pay the summons when I had already been sent a demand for final notice which showed the amount as £64.42.
Is there anyway I can get the summons costs to be cancelled?
Is there any template letter I can use for this?
Thanks,

The most likely case is that you have more than one balance outstanding - the only way you can tell for certain is to ask the council, there isn't enough information to say.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

I have spoken to the council it is only one account with one amount outstanding which they have split into two.
They are saying the £64.42 was for the arrears for the first period of an agreed instalment and the £180.00 for the second part which I totally do not understand. The instalments were £144.42 and £104.00 - Where did they get the figure of £64.42? Why not include the full amount in the final tax notice?
Any legal grounds to get the summons cost cancelled?0 -
There's still not enough information without knowing how (or why) the charge has been split. For a balance to have been split it must either be for separate years or you've had an adjustment to your account at some point (dates of acct changed, discount adjusted, exemption adjusted etc) which had generated the charge.
If you've had an adjustment that generates a separate balance then it can be dealt with separately and action will be taken for this amount. To decide if it's correct you need to know why the charge was generated, what adjustments have been made (and why & when) and what notice have been issued (and the charge shown on each one).I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals.
