Job offer withdrawn

I was recently offered a new role with a company I last worked for3 years ago.
Following my interview I gave details of my current manager and the 2 I had whilst working for the company originally as referees.
I had worked for the company from 2003 until 2012 when I was made redundant.
During this time I'd had 2 long term absences, one for depression following the death of my father and the other because of a serious back injury due to a fall.
I received councelling for the depression through a company run scheme, I also visited OH around 4x when I had the back injury, they agreed I wasn't fit to work due to tne extent of my injury. On being declared fit I was due to return to work but got made redundant.
I was called by a manager and advised that they have decided to withdraw my new job offer due to my previous sick record. I was never disciplined for my sickness. Should they have offered me the new job even though they had prior knowledge of my sick record or should they have checked first. Also these sickness events occured 7 years and 4 years ago and I do not have any related problems with either of them now.

Afraid I think you'll find there is little if anything you can do in reality.
It may be that the offer has been withdrawn as a consequence of the reference given by the previous manager(s) from when you last worked there.
However, an offer of employment can be withdrawn anytime prior to taking up the post and even then they can get rid for practically any or no reason for the first couple of years.0
