Finally, a GoPro beater?

I fly quadcopters and ski so always on the lookout for something light that shoots really well. I have a mobius which is pretty good and tiny, but I always wanted Gopro 3+ type footage but just couldn't splash the £330 on a small camera! Looks like the saviour arrived this week, the Xiaomi Ambarella. They have a code offer on just now ' xiaoyi ' at checkout (5 pc). The price is crazy good value I think, it shoots the 'Holy Grail' 1080p at 60fps, which pretty much no other good action camera under £250 does. And it's £60 delivered! And waterproof! With Wifi! It's a dream for me, so thought I'd share. Gopro shares nosedived a bit when it was released, it's a big big market shaker.

Here is a review-sounds good. I was looking into GoPro but this seems a better alternative.

Awesome, thanks for that. About time someone properly took on Gopro! Thought they'd do it at about the #150 quid mark, cos this seems up there with their Hero 3+ White / Silver. I think the 60fps will be great for skiing, I can tell the difference when I watch a vid back now.

Got some preliminary footage today, just trying to find the best way to mount it on to my RC Flying wing. Very light, feels lighter than the Gopro a bit, will try it first in the housing.
The Gopro I got before (Hero 3 Black) has red ring thing on the back, light comes on and locks up. Anyone else get that? Any solutions around? Will probably get what I can for it on the net and stick with the Xiaomi :j :beer:

Thanks for posting this! I'd been looking at the Go Pro but just couldn't justify spending that sort of money for something that's a "bit of fun" for my family. Have ordered the Xiaomi along with the waterproof case, selfie type stick, case and a SD Micro card (64gb), all for under £100!

Looking at the various you tube comparisons, there really doesn't seem to be that much in it between the Chinese version and the Go Pro and I'm not precious about a label if it performs the same and costs a LOT less.

Sorry, but that footage is laughably bad compared to the GoPro but then again can't say that I find GoPro that good either.

I suspect that this thread is more about the price rather than quality footage but if anyone is after really decent drone footage then you can not beat the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera. Super 16 sensor, 12-bit log, 13 stops of latitude, RAW and ProRes..... need I say anymore. Oh, you can also control it on the drone via S.Bus. Nope its not super cheap but less that twice the cost of a GoPro which has got to be a steal for the features.

Anyway.
