Name and Shame councils that underbuild

To the HPC crew, why haven't you already done this

How hard can it be to make a simple website which lists all the councils, their local plan, if it is achieved etc

Rate them and name the 50 worst councils (lowest per capita builders)

Make information easy to access and people will see and possibly act

they will also need to read the local plan of all the councils to see what individual councils have set themselves as targets and assumptions.

Probably an hours job per council. if it was spread between the HPC crew its a days work max

A simple webpage showing all councils,
A link to their local plan
A simple per year target they have (found in the local plan)
And a way to order their planed new builds per capita to see who is worst and who is best
    etc

I have a feeling that if that was done, if the london boroughs local plans were shown in such a simple way, that it may not even match the london plan.

tbh the way this data is collected and published is a shambles in the UK. In other countries like France or Turkey they record to the exact figure the number of permits given the number of homes started building the number finished and the total floor space.

part of the reason we are in this mess is the !!!! lot at the ONS seem to think sampling instead of actually recording results, to save a few pounds on data collection and entry is worth it.

Wow, it would be terrible to be "named and shamed"

The Council wouldn't be able to show its face in public for a long time

But do the houses in the local plan actually get built? They seem to be taking a really long time going about it where I am. And while those aren't being built, other smaller schemes that aren't in the plan are.

In other words.. how accurate are they, and who holds them to account if they get it wrong?

ETA... Also if all the plans were added together, would there be enough houses in the right place anyway?

Probably a vote winner, tbh, to boast about how few homes you built.

The boomers would lap this stuff up.
    FACT.

Yup, I realise that. I'm not that bothered by the numbers to download it.

Or maybe the London mayor will see that the council's are taking him and his team for a ride.

The london plan is for 48k homes while I suspect the local plans for all the London councils permit a quota closer to 20k homes

If they knew this was the case they would probably step on some tails

Likewise the political parties would do the same nationally

it should be a basic requirement for each council to state on their main planning webpage how many homes were built in the last 20 years and how many they plan to give quotas for during the next 20

The council doesnt build any houses, it just classifies land as suitable for housing. Which means that a housebuilder can have a degree of confidence that if they draw up plans for an estate it will get approved (subject of course to lots of discussions).

If housebuilders find that the margins dont warrant a site, they wont build on it.
  • I've mentioned this before now... what central government should have done years ago was set appropriate building targets according to the population increase and demographic change.... then.... as with waste recycling targets, align funding given to local governments from central government to how well they did.

    Simples

It's no coincidence that the immigration office is in chaos... It is a convenient excuse for messing up the building targets.

Allowing the housing market to inflate as it has done over the past 20-30 yrs is gross neglect by government. They had the power and the responsiblity to act in this country's best interest, they failed.
    Peace.
