lost/stolen purse on benefits. Advice please.

Hi,

Can someone provide me with the relevant advise on what options I may have after my purse was Lost/ stolen this morning after I withdrew £170 of benefits. I'ts normal for me to withdraw that amount every fortnight as I do all my shopping, electric ect in cash so I am aware, and can easily keep track of what I spend. I live with my partner and we are both claiming JSA untill mid April. I have retraced my steps. I have not yet called the police as my partner is out now to see if it has been handed into any of the shops. Does anyone know of perhaps a loan, or if theres anything the Dwp will do, or if I have any options please? Applying for credit is not an option. If anyone could help and u need further information please ask and I will answer to the best of my knowlege. Thank you.

You'd be better off asking in the Benefits section http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=139

Presumably you have reported it to the police, which will be the first question from anyone.

Call the police straight away, DWP will ask you why you didn't.

You may be able to get a loan but not sure.

I really hope someone has handed it in.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Agree you need to report this ASAP and not wait until tomorrow.

Call police as dwp will want a crime reference number too. Also cancel your bank cards and any other important cards to to minimise I'd theft,

Definitely call the police. I found a wallet once and handed it to local police station
