Hi all :j
I was just wondering what you do about comps when you know you'll be away from your house for a while? I'm lucky enough to be going on holiday for a fortnight for my Dad's birthday in May and there won't be anyone at home to receive my post! I've been entering a ton of competitions for the past few months, and I know sometimes the postal dates are quite far from the comp closing dates.
So here's my poll lol!
Would you:
a) stop entering comps close to that end date
b) get someone to check your post regularly
c) forward post to another address
d) do nothing (I'll probably not win anything anyway :rotfl:)
Thank you for your help, your thoughts are very much appreciated

i would go with d
i would be more concerned with a reply timescale to a potential wem though0 -
d)

If there's a deadline, they'll usually be emailing or ringing. Most postal things are actual things so you'll be able to collect them on return if they're not delivered/left somewhere. I hope your postperson doesn't think it's a good idea to store parcels in one of your bins though (like one of mine once did).
I did once miss concert tickets that were posted out to me, but on the whole I'd gamble it.

:rotfl: oh sax, straight to the nub of the matter as usual!
a & b are good options (I wouldn't bother with c)
I do know that deliveries by couriers may state you have 7 days to collect before they are returned to the sender. I'm not sure about royal mail.
My advice is, do what you feel is best for you, and don't stress about what you might have missed as the chances are you haven't missed anything it was just wishful thinking!
At the least, check emails for possible WEMs while you're away - an internet cafe will be sufficient if you haven't got internet any other way, and every 2-3 days if you can manage it (otherwise the worst you'll come back to is a few hundred or more  spam emails!!)=^._.^= You will always be lucky if you know how to make friends with strange cats =^._.^=0 -
Will anyone be keeping an eye on your home while you are away? ask a trusted neighbour(if you have/know any who are willing) to take in your mail. (the lady next door but one to our has the spare key to our house and sorts the mail for us when we are away-as we do the same for her) or if she sees the postie knocking with a parcel and we aren't home she will take it in(you could put a note in her or your window stating this) Or if you ask your friend/neighbour nicely you could use their address for comps ending while you are away?
I suppose you could put in a redirection for the period of time you are away(I'm not sure how much these cost these days)2018 wins-12wins0 -
I certainly wouldnt be considering redirection for a couple of weeks away. Mininum redirecrion period is 3 months and about £25
Just leave it. If you miss a royal mail parcel it will be held at your sorting office and you can collect when you are back.
If you have someone checking your post you could still miss a parcel and they wont be able to collect it without your id so may as well just go away and enjoy your holiday£2 Savers Club for 2022 #120 -
Redirecting mail is hit and miss and not for going on holiday. There used to be a service (still might be) where the PO will hold all your mail for you for 1-2 weeks.
It's probably best just to not even think about it and see what happens.0 -
d - do nothing.
You don't know how far after a closing date you might be notified so you would not know which ones to avoid.
Unlike winning e-mails that can require a reply within as little as 24 hours I don't think I have ever had a winning letter that needed a reply within 14 days to claim the prize.0 -
its only 2 weeks, chances are if you miss anything it will either be at the mail sorting office anyway. I wouldn't recommend putting a notice in your window advertising the fact you are away eitherYou never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.
