That's why Boots offers a free NHS Health Check Service at 180 of our pharmacies.* The check can help you take action to help reduce your chances of getting heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease. It only takes about 20 to 30 minutes, with easy questions about your age, physical activity and family history. It also includes some simple and routine health tests. After the check, we'll give you personalised advice and support to help keep you healthy.

NHS Health Check Service

Diabetes and cardiovascular disease are two of the most common health conditions in the UK.

The NHS Health Check Service* carries out a one-to-one consultation to work out your chances of developing these conditions and helps you come up with a plan to reduce this risk.

You can use this free NHS service at a number of locations in England, such as GPs surgeries and local pharmacies, including selected Boots pharmacies.

It may be suitable for you if you're aged between 40 and 74 and haven't already had a health check in the past five years.

What happens during the check?

Your NHS Health Check will take place in a private consultation room with one of our specially-trained pharmacists and lasts about 30 minutes. It includes:

1Straightforward questions
You'll be asked about your medical and family history, as well as your lifestyle.

This will help your pharmacist understand if you have risk factors for developing certain conditions.

2Routine health checks
These will measure your:

Height, weight and waist circumference
Blood pressure
Cholesterol levels - this is done by taking a pin-!!!!! sample of blood
Diabetes risk - if necessary, we may take a further pin-!!!!! sample of blood
3Results and action plan
Your results will help us work out:

If you are at a high, low or medium risk of developing cardiovascular disease
Your risk of developing diabetes
Your pharmacist will discuss any concerns or questions you may have and help you put together an action plan for reducing your risk. This may include a number of tips such as losing weight or stopping smoking.

If you are over 65, you'll also be given information on the signs and symptoms of dementia.

If necessary, you may be referred to your doctor for further care and support.

Lots of other pharmacy's do this to,not just boots ! Gp's and some mobile units to . all get paid to do it ,if you look up health check or check for life I think you can find a list for you area . you often don't need an appointment and don't need to have been sent an invitation . nothing against the big shops just think we should support local independent as well.
