Discharge mortgage help

Evening all,

My wife had a mortgage appointment with Santander on Saturday, and all was going well until she mentioned the word "bankrupt"!

They said they have recently changed their policy so that they can't offer mortgages to anyone who've been bankrupt in the past.

My wife declared herself bankrupt 9 years ago, due to her epilepsy becoming so intense and waiting for brain surgery. She has been discharged for 8 years now, her health is amazing as is her credit rating.

Has anyone got any lender in mind we could try?

Seems so unfair that all bankruptcy is bad and individual cases rant looked at.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Banks have to look at global trends, not individual situations. If you want that then Santander isnt the place for you.

Go see a broker, I'd be pretty confident if everythings been well maintained since the bankruptcy you'll find a lender for you.

Absolutely as betmunch says.


Avoid large national broker firms, estate agents offices and lender branches - and you should be fine (look for someone who has been trading as they are for a few years).
