Discharge mortgage help

Evening all,

My wife had a mortgage appointment with Santander on Saturday, and all was going well until she mentioned the word "bankrupt"!

They said they have recently changed their policy so that they can't offer mortgages to anyone who've been bankrupt in the past.

My wife declared herself bankrupt 9 years ago, due to her epilepsy becoming so intense and waiting for brain surgery. She has been discharged for 8 years now, her health is amazing as is her credit rating.

Has anyone got any lender in mind we could try?

Seems so unfair that all bankruptcy is bad and individual cases rant looked at.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Ebbingeii,

I posted the thread just below yours; thread is called mortgage after bankruptcy and repossession.

My situation was different to your wifes and i am sorry what she must have experienced, i am glad she is on the mend :)

Try Leeds Building Society, they take on people 6 years post discharge and also repossession after 6 year also. My 6 year post bankruptcy (discharge) is this September so i have to wait!

It is disgusting the way that they treat ex bankrupts (feel like a criminal).

I went through an extremely messy breakup hence why i got into debt (long story).

The situation i am in is i want to apply for a joint mortgage with my husband who currently has a house in his own name, however we need a bigger house and now want to start a family and he cannot afford to have another mortgage in his sole name due to the amount we need to borrow.

I have also found that it would be best to put at least a 15-20% deposit down.

    Hope this helps :)
