                    Hello there.
I am new to this site so if im posting in the wrong place then please forgive me.
I have recently received a letter from mkrr in regards to a debt with hsbc for £6000.
I took the loan out in 2004 and due to me being made redundant from my job in 2006 and my life going down the pan I could not make any more payments.
The letter I received stated that mkrr had bought the debt from hsbc in 2011 and all dealings and payments had to go through them. in the same envelope was a letter from hsbc themselves stating that they had sold the debt to mkrr on said date and had my old hsbc account number and sort code on it.
The question I want to ask is firstly is will this debt be statute barred if the last time I made a payment to it or acknowledged it was in 2006 and if this debt is SB then will mkrr stil be able to put a default on my credit report as I actually have quite a good report so far and there is no sign of any ccjs or defaults on there.
Also can anyone out there point me in the right direction as where to take it from here. I have had some advice telling me to ignore everything unless a court pack comes to my house which if I'm right in saying this debt is SB they cant take me to court for it anyway.
If anyone can help me out there I would very much appreciate it

It's true that if they started a court claim you have an effective defence to that claim. So you could ignore them till then.
If you want to act ahead of that you can send them the SB letter, and then ignore them.

If the account was defaulted by HSBC (and it should have been) then the entry stays for six years from that date. MKRR can't issue a second default but a successful ccj would appear.0 -
if I was to send the statute barred letter and for some reason it turned out to not be SB would this start the 6 years off again.
I'm sorry to sound dumb i'm just not too savvy on this kind of stuff.
I'm only asking as I have heard these kinds of firms get up to all sorts of mischief like making tiny payments to accounts to keep them from becoming SB.
I am pretty much sure it must be as like I said before I have made no acknowledgment since 2006 at the latest I just don't want to drop myself in a hole with them.

            It would not, see: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=34906257&postcount=5
These firms do try it on with phantom payments sometimes, but unless they can prove them in court on balance of probability such daft tactics will do no good.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Have you changed address at any time in this period ?
This is quite important in avoiding a CCJI do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
I have changed address a few times since yes. I have done a credit check on myself recently and have gave my addresses over the last 6 years and there is no defaults on any of the credit agencies.
I moved from the address where the original default was made in jan 20090
