Hi
When I saw that people were using Ebay to look for installers, I did a quick search myself and came across SolarGen
A 4kW system for £4.2k sounds very tempting.
Has anyone used them for their installation? Is there anything missing off their quote?
Thanks in advance

The only thing that concerns me is to do with their figures.
No way will you generate 4084kWh in Yorkshire or Lancashire(unless you're extremely lucky) and again unless you're at home all day or use a diversion switch such as an iboost or immersun for heating an immersion tank then a deemed 50% usage is pie in the sky.
Other than that, if you don't have any added extras then that's one hell of a price. There is another thread where the OP is in discussions with the said company which hopefully should come to fruition.2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0 -
Thanks Tunnel. I did my own calcs using the link in the pv sticky and get 3550 so I didn't pay their figures too much attention
Are you to point me to the thread that you're referring to?0 -
Here you go

You'll see that some of the regulars are trying to work out the OP's actual roof size as it may be possible to get a standard system installed.
Why not post your rough location then others who have solar may be able to give you a recommendation if you're a little wary of the eb*y company.2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0 -
I live in not so sunny Wigan

Looking at the thread you mentioned, it looks like they want £395 for iboost. Is that a reasonable price?0 -
If buying on it's own then it would be a reasonable price if fitted, if your taking a full solar system and an iboost then I believe there's room for a deal to be done, certainly doesn't hurt to try.
Do you have an immersion heater?2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0 -
£395 is a lot for an i-boost and some installers seem to be including them for free when they install a system as the actual cost of the i-boost is under £200 and the electrician is already there installing your panels.0

I was just about to reply saying I do have immersion but upon closer inspection, it looks like I've only got a hot water tank; I don't have the tell tale switchDo you have an immersion heater?
Is there any chance that I'm just lacking just that and can still take advantage of an iboost? 0 -

Check your tank.
There may be a connection near the top with a plug/blank in it.
Or another unused connection where you could have an immersion fitted;)
