I agree with Gardener re-fuel.....put down what you use, not what you think you might have to put down.

And before the economist's suggest getting a more frugal car, consider the maximum values an OR will accept, to have a car exempted as an asset? The BR won't be able to take advantage of the very latest fuel saving technologies....

  • Thank you for all your inputs!

    Looking at my costs:

Electricity is on key meter, so can't change supplier or tariff (rented flat)
Telephone, I need a landline to get internet and tv (bundle from Virgin)

Food also includes toiletries, cleaning materials etc.

Clothing, I have to supply my own boots for work, and they take a hammering as I plod sites! They usually last a year.

Holidays..not actually, my family lives in Ireland, and my elderly patents cannot travel to the UK, so I visit them once/twice a year.

I park on site at work, so I get free parking.

Contents insurance I missed out, currently £11/month

Never thought about entertainment, perhaps £10 month?

    Thanks again!

So, don't you 'park' when you go out to places other than to work?

Entertainment is about right for me...but you may well spend a bit more...prices being what they are these days..[remember, justifying an amount which may seem high, is about providing acceptable evidence?]

Unless you are a member of the older generation, the OR is unlikely to approve an entertainment fund.

So you never ever pay for parking, not even for trips to town? My hat goes off to you for achieving that :)
  • I have a parking pass permit that allows me to park at sites in the South-west, some close to where I need to shop, I honestly can't remember the last time I paid for parking!

Do you need to pay for that pass or is it one of those that allows local residents an hours parking free?

What we are trying to say is...what would it cost you, if you didn't have that pass?

My permit is issued by the security company I work for, which means I can park at all sites where they are contracted to provide a service. (although technically only if I am on duty there on that day, but nobody bothers questioning it)

Ahh, I understand £10/month I suppose. Is that reasonable?

Also do you have breakdown cover for your car. Usually a good idea if you do not have access to funds.
