Best play online, computers don't make mistakes so doesn't lend themselves to a good game, playing people online is the way, and many sites are free eg playchess.

They do if you play them on reduced engine strength, I am only familiar with Fritz (but other leading software will offer the same options). I only really use use Fritz for post game analysis. But you can also play chess software at a reduced level, below its full ability, but as I said, I don't tend to do that.

They also offer training, in openings and endgames, plus probably quite a few other facilities, that I don't even know exist, because I bought mine specifically for post game analysis, to learn where I missed opportunities in a previously played game.

They don't make the mistakes humans would make, I have had my days of playing tournament chess and club chess, it was always great to just play out of book and watch the opponents fall to pieces as the best computer move is only good if followed up correctly. I only ever play 1 minute stuff online nowadays.

I didn't say that they would make the mistakes that humans make, I know they won't 'blunder', but who wants to win on a blunder? What the OP would probably want is to play a computer at a less than optimum level. Then possibly analyse the game with the software on full strength, if he is so inclined.

I'm no master or grand master, I always thought every game was lost because of a blunder.
When I used to do the tournies, the only games I reviewed were the ones I lost, only the OP will know what they are after.
I agree with many though, chess is the best game ever and fun at all levels.

I'm the same, I usually don't review my won games (especially when it was due to an obviously poor move by my opponent).

As for every game lost by a blunder, well I suppose technically that is correct, although in some close games it might be harsh to label the pivotal move as a blunder. But there are plenty of drawn games with no blunder, obviously there are also drawn games with blunders (as in someone not spotting a winning move). I particularly remember a game I played in the Surrey leagues, where I had a totally lost pawn endgame (his king was far more active than mine), but as he was short of time (he offered quickplay, which I always accept) I thought that I would make him play out his win. But compared to the way he played the opening/middlegame he played awfully, and I was able to draw. Sadly that didn't happen again from such a disadvantaged position, but I suppose once is good enough.
