Nationwide- painfully slow!

Hi all,

My buyer is applying for morgage through nationwide. Her application has been in for four weeks over which time they've asked for extra documents. We're led to believe now that the underwriters have all they need and once they've reviewed they will instruct the valuation. The last documents went in last Friday so I was expecting to hear of the valuation by the close of this week, but nothing!! Is anyone else applying trough Nationwide an experiencing delays?

  • We applied I think 3-4 weeks ago and it's been an endless stream of requests for additional paperwork. I find them pretty disorganised, we've had conflicting advice on what is acceptable proof of deposit, what IDs are needed etc. which also took needless additional time. They should have received the last set of paperwork this Wednesday but we haven't heard anything yet. The valuation was done pretty quickly though in our case.

My experience with nationwide is not great, they have underwriters who check payslips, more underwriters for bank statements and once satisfied they get passed to a real underwriter.

That being said, if the valuation was not instructed at time of application I would say there is possibly something potentially wrong as nationwide instruct val on application unless its not a straight pass.

Also just last week, I submitted an application on Tuesday and it was offered friday morning (2 and a half days).

When I got my mortgage offer last month, it was within 5 working days. Quite a few people in the waiting for a mortgage offer thread used Nationwide and had their offer quickly.

Are you certain on what (I assume) the EA is telling you? The EA told us that the buyer applied for their mortgage but actually didn't put in their full application until 3 weeks later!
  • I had a DIP sunday morning then had full offer wednesday. Received in the post friday.
  • I'm getting worried now again! I suppose our case wasn't typical though as we are FTB with a very large cash deposit so all their money laundering bells were probably ringing and we've had to provide statements going back 6 months in some cases. I'm hoping it won't be long now.... We hoped to have exchanged by now.
  • Hmmmm, well our EA is v good and spoke with buyers broker. Basically she had two credit cards that she had used some money from her recent house sale (following divorce) to pay off which hasnt shown as paid off on her credit check- so nationwide asked for one form of evidence that they were paid off, and once that was in they asked for one more form of evidence which was submitted last Friday. Apparently the underwriters acknowledged receipt on Wednesday. Not sure if it bears any relevance but she's getting a buy to let mortgage.....
