Hi, I purchased a vehicle on HP finance in November 2014, & yesterday the timing chain has snapped causing £2900 worth of damage, the dealer gave me a months warranty, do I have any comeback with the finance company, or am I snookered, Regards

How old is the car? Mileage? Price paid?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Its a 2006 120,000 miles Thanks0

Paid 6k for it0

Is it a chain or a belt?
I'm guessing £6k for an 8 year old car with 120k miles means it's something like a BMW or Merc?
If it is a chain (which could be argued should last the life of the vehicle) then the manufacturer may well offer a good will contribution towards repair costs. Such a contribution would depend on the vehicle's history - whether it has a full service history, been sold within the dealer network etc.
I have recently had a 75% contribution towards the cost of replacing rear differential bearings - it didn't take much effort to argue that they shouldn't have disintegrated at 45k miles.0 -
Hi, yes its a mercedes e class, I am in Glasgow, did you phone Mercedes head office? Regards0

If you've only had the car for four months, then take it back to the dealer you bought it from. The dealer cannot restrict the warranty to one month. The car has to be 'of merchantable quality' and a wrecked engine after four months certainly isn't."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

Might be worth posting on the motoring board. Pretty sure timing belts/chains are a bit different than general faults0 -
Timing belts and chains are classed as a wear-and-tear item, are they not? The manufacturer should specify when they should be replaced / changed, might be worth having a look at the service history."Facism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you... [it] doesn't walk in saying, "our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."0

I would have thought that you would only have a case if the timing belt had been changed in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications. I would never take a chance with trying to extend the life of a timing belt.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0
