                    Hello,
I am new to this, I have never posted before....hope I am posting this in the right place :-)
I have just applied for my nhs ill health pension and was wondering how long nhs pensions normally take to decide? The form is being posted today by my works occupational health department.
A brief background, I am (was) a paramedic for 20 years. I developed a nerve entrapment which has caused problems with grip and dexterity. I had a functional capacity assessment after my op to release my nerve, and only scored 30%....so basically need to improve 70% to be allowed to do my job! I was dismissed on medical grounds and am now hoping to get my ill health pension. Redeployment was considered, but nothing suitable was available. I have had all treatment available to me. How easy is it to get an ill health pension, I am a bit nervous now I have seen how many people have had problems!
Thank you for reading, any helpful advice would be really appreciated
Regards
Beth

            Hi,
I applied for my pension in September 2014. And still no answer yet. I provided documents from my GP and my psychiatrist to say that I was in no position to return to any type of work. I rang them yesterday to check the progress and to be told that my medical documentation had still not been sent to a medical advisor for review.
I left NHS in March 2012. I basically fell apart at the seems, depression, anxiety and stress. Should have got my pension at 55 being in special classes but oh no you had to be in work for the last 3 years before the 55th birthday.
So can't get what am entitled to and am going down the path of applying for deferred benefits due to ill health. Its awful and I am !!!!ed off.
Didn't realise it would take so long, so hope you have better success than me.0

Once again, I am sorry I missed your reply. I am new to this, and expected to get a notification if someone answers...but I obviously got it wrong :-)
I am so sorry to hear your plight. They make it so difficult and stressful don't they! I first started getting the process rolling Nov 14, while I was still employed (I was dismissed in Dec)
I am on a knife edge waiting. I have just received a copy of the letter my consultant sent them (they requested further info) and it is useless!!! He didn't put any of my symptoms down and basically whitewashed my problems with function!!! Not very hopeful now....but we will see. Good luck with your application x0

Burstcouch1 I am so pleased you got your pension....well done you must be over the moon! I phoned pensions today and they told me a decision has been made and it is in the post....should receive the letter either tomorrow or the next day. Well that's me not sleeping tonight! X0
