Thanks for the informative and well written reply (apart from the quoted bit ).

As for the last point, I believe the reason Govt. is pushing smart meters is so that the price per unit can be increased at peak times because I believe peak demand is the Achilles heel of the National Grid. If they can do this then there'd be little reason to subsidize household batteries.

If you want to know more, or keep your eye in, then you could do what I do and keep an eye on some of the PV press each day. Typically I check the news pages of these sites:

    SolarPowerPortal

    PV-Tech

    PV Magazine

    Solar Daily

There's usually a storage item each day. And whilst, between them, there may be 30 or so new news items each day, I only skim the headlines and open a few that may be of interest.

PV-Tech has also launched a storage specific site, cunningly called PV-Tech Storage.

Storage could be domestic, commercial or grid scale. It could also be simply to levelise output from a large generation site. And storage isn't just batteries, it could be compressed air, hydrogen/methane production and many other forms.

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 28kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.
