So, why was a conveyancer used?
This is a really strange case as you didnt move house or lender but you have been charged a fee that would only apply if you did and you used a conveyancer which would only be used if you moved house/lender
When you say remortgaged what do you mean by that? previously, you indicated it was just a new deal. Now you are saying it is a remortgage.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). It was a remortgage on our current property to get a better interst rate deal! We didn't use a convayancer it was Barclays/Woolwich and I don't know why they did? Assume it is normal on a remortgage!? Anyway we have found a special condition on the new mortgage saying the final repayment charge isn't applicable as we have switched from one mortgage to another with Barclays. Now we just need to get the £275 back as they have taken it out of the the mortgage payment refund0

Ok, so it was a retention deal and the bank took the payment in error. They are aware of this and will be giving you a full refund.
