SMI and future-proofing my borrowing

I am eligible for SMI, I can just about manage to pay my mortgage (including the interest that the SMI would cover) without claiming the SMI. I have been advised by a benefits advice office to claim it and have completed the form, but not sent it yet, the reason for my hesitation is as follows.

My mortgage is currently in joint names, myself and by estranged spouse.

My aim is to have the mortgage transferred into my name only in the near future.

My question is would it jeopardise my chances of transferring into my name with my mortgage lender, if they see that my interest is being paid via SMI payments?

Thanks.
