Wife on Mortgage?

Hi there, apologies if this has been talked about before but I have just fallen off the fixed deal I had with Santander and in the process of choosing a new deal it occured to me that she is not named on the previous mortgage and wondered if there was much point to adding her? Has anyone got any insight into this?
Thanks in advance! :T

  • Is your wife's name on the title deed? If so then most lenders would prefer her to be on the mortgage as well, this issue has given us a lot of hassle and worry. If she isn't then I'm not sure it would make sense to add her only to the mortgage. I'm not an expert on these things though, it's what I can infer from my recent experience.

It would be called a transfer of equity. Cost is c.£500-600 typically.

If the mortgage is large (>£250k) it will also involve stamp duty to pay.
