Choosing a grid supplier when I have solar panels

Hi all,

I had solar pv panels fitted in July. I have joined the MSE Cheap Energy Club this week and am now looking for a cheaper supplier for the electric I still need to use from the grid. The Cheap Energy Club has recommended considerable savings but all the recommendations involve rather high daily standing charges. I am hoping the panels mean I will use considerably less electric for a large part of the year. How do I work out whether the daily standing charges are going to cost me more than the savings the solar panels will make for me on an annual basis?

    Hiya, and welcome.

Don't overthink it. Work out how much leccy you expect to buy each year now the panels have been fitted. I know it's not a year yet, but Apr, May and June, should be similar to consumption last July, Aug, Sep after the panels were fitted.

Once you know (guestimate) your new annual consumption, just stick that number in the comparisons, and see how the results compare.
