Euro lock won't always lock

Hi all, wondering if anyone has any ideas on this one.
Family member has a UPVC door with a euro cylinder lock in it that allows you to lift the handle and lock with the key from both inside and outside. 50% of the time the lock works and you can't open the door with the handle but the other 50% of the time if you pull the handle down the door still opens despite the fact the key fully turned.
We replaced the whole lock with a new £25 euro cylinder lock (snap proof one) but its doing exactly the same thing so assuming it might be connected to the door instead??
Thanks

Needs the lock strip or main gearbox replaced, sometimes the gearbox can't be replaced on it's own and the full lockstrip is required. Depends on make and model0

Thanks, I'll try to check the gearbox at the weekend when I next visit. Never knew doors had gearboxes!0

Yellow,
Try releasing the retaining screw on the door edge a little bit. When I replaced all of our external locks with TS007 locks, I noticed some were very difficult to turn if the retaining screw was very tight.
Good luck,

When looking at the long metal strip, look just above the latch and just below the bolt to see if it is a screw, torx screw or rivet. If it is a screw or torx screw then you can usually just replace the gearbox. If it is a rivet then you will need to replace the whole thing."Nil Sine Labore" - Nothing Without Labour0

Thanks again all, it was the gearbox in the end. Replaced with same model from eBay and working fine again now.0
