Would like to get a mortgage....

Hi
I am after some advice please. I would love to get a mortgage next year if possible ( I would love to get one tomorrow but it is not going to happen) haha.
A bit about me... I am a single mom and also a full time student. I do have some debts that I am trying to clear at the moment and have managed to better my credit by having a credit card(high interest) But have been paying it off in full since last may and they have gave me two credit increases. I have contract phones in my name and also a car on finance.
Could anyone give me any advice on how I can better my chances of getting a mortgage. Also I know I will need to be in a job for a while, how long would they be looking for?
Thank you in advance.

I would pay off my car finance and debts first as these will be taken into account and with only 1 income it may not be as easy as it would with 2.0
