Items not stocked in certain Sainsbury's

I ROBOshop (Research Online, Buy Offline) for all of my food items. I'm on an occupational pension, so I have (unfortunately) the financial incentive but (fortunately) the time to do so.
Possibly due to their pricing initiative, I'm finding more of the items I need are now cheaper in Sainsbury's. This should be good news, as they're my nearest big supermarket.
However ... I keep finding that my nearest store doesn't stock the items I required. And it's a large store. And these weren't "exotic" items: for example, 12 cube/71g reduced salt vegetable OXO cubes (they stocked all the other varieties) and 1kg Kellogg's Corn Flakes, (again, they stocked all the other sizes).
Therefore, I've had to make special trips to the one other local, but more distant, store which stocks these items to buy them. I've been able to tie these in with other tasks, and cover the extra fuel cost, but it's still inconvenient.
Has anyone else found this with Sainsbury's? Or is it my fault for needing to buy the wrong things?

If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

Are they available if you shop online?
If so maybe its worth doing an online shop every now and again to stock up on the unavailable items in your local store? That is assuming your delivery would come from another store.
I tried Sainsburys a few times as thats my most local store but I found them hugely more expensive than Asda so I now do my shopping online.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. I'm surprised you're finding that with a large store. I find one of the stores near me has limited stock but the large one has most things I've ever looked for so maybe you're just unlucky. I agree with Sarah that it's worth either online shopping or going further afield to stock up on items you know you need and/or good value.
That being said, I now do almost all my shopping in Aldi with a few bits from Farmfoods and Sainsbury. There was a time when I bought a few basics in Aldi then stopped in Sainsbury's for a large part of my shopping. I've noticed in the past year or so that Aldi has a much wider range and what I get from Sainsbury's is limited. Some weeks I don't go there at all.0 -
I find this in my more local store, it's not a massive one but a fairly big town supermarket, usually it's the basics items which they don't have.0

I go to two different large sainsbury's stores (depending on traffic and where I've been working)- they do seem to stock slightly different things at times but I assume that is due to local demand.
If there are particular products you would like to see stocked at your local I'd try writing to them - if enough people request a product they might start bringing it in. There's an online form you can fill in on their website.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Has anyone else found this with Sainsbury's?
It's the same with all supermarkets. Stores are different sizes so not all stock the full range. If your local store isn't the one your online orders come from, then it will have different items, or not have some items that are available online.0 -
On two separate occasions, having tried to ask customer services and the local manager why certain items weren't stocked and receiving no useful answer, I've written a letter to Sainsburys CEO - at that time Justin King. Result - immediate response by phone, items stocked plus a £10 gift voucher.
Give it a try.0 -
Both of the items you mention Steve aren't available in the store I work at so not the only store who doesn't stock them. Ask at customer services if they can be brought back in.0

All stores do this. And, even worse, smaller stores are often NOT subsets of the larger store - so just going to the larger store does not always help.0

My mother was able to put in a weekly order for Sainsbry's bread which her local Sainsbury's didn't stock.
In our town, we have two Sainsbury's. They both stock some organic food but what they stock differs. Neither store has everything so we find ourselves going to one for organic veg and another for organic stock cubes and French dressing.
If you call Sainsbury's Careline with the item code and store that you know it is stocked in, they can often tell you when the next delivery will be. Then you can go there and if it hasn't been shelved yet, with the right codes they will even go find it for you. (Suggest avoid doing it on a Friday or weekend if poss).0 -

Where I live, there are 6 Sainsburys within 15 miles of me in the same county. Only 2 of them - the largest of the two have internet orders done. They are in the region of 85-92,000m2 One of these stores only opened in the last 15 months. Never done an online shop with Sainsburys and I don't know which one covers my area as roughly the same distance.
Customer careline can tell you which store covers your potcode. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
