Obtaining a bus pass if not paying council tax?

Options
Can I obtain new bus pass if not paying council tax?

Retired, sold my house and touring in my caravan looking for a small property but not in any rush.

Have broken my bus pass that was valid until 2019. It was really handy as I'm on state pension only.

Have a registered address with my friend but it's 150 miles away, I rarely stay, don't pay any council tax and don't want to involve them with any hassle.

Is there any way I can obtain a bus pass replacement locally, wherever I am camping, think not?

I'm 66 and not trying to fiddle anything.

AFAIK you don't need to be a council tax payer but you do need proof of a long term local address in the area that you are obtaining the pass.

Not sure of the definition of permanent or what that proof can be.

Contact the council that issued the pass - they may have sufficient on file just to issue a new one

Thanks, I'll have to do a 250 mile round trip but hopefully that will work as I lived there for 15 years and the broken pass is still current.

Get it replaced and then sent to you c/o of an accommodation address near to where you are based, to pick up. Nothing at all to do with CT, you simply need a mailing address.
PS: how do you 'break' a bus pass?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Thanks, will have a think about that.

Got on bus with rucksack in one hand and bus pass in other. Bus braked hard and I fell against bar. Card split in two right across the hologram.

Easily done... I speak from experience. ;)

Too much flexing in a wallet in a hip pocket will do it. Causes some internal circuitry (or something) to break such that it isn't recognised by the readers on some buses.

Does the bus pass not only cover local services in the area of issue?

The bus pass covers local services in the country of issue, but different local authorities can impose their own limitations, mostly to prevent the use of the bus pass during the morning rush.

National Express coach services are not part of the scheme, but medium-distance 'inter-city' bus services are usually included.

There is a website for bus pass users to share information about their adventures, and it used to be advertised on my local Arriva buses, but I haven't seen any adverts recently.

I have an inflatable canoe which I sometimes take upwind by bus, and then paddle home in comfort before a following breeze.
