P.S. where have you calculated maintenance of a depreciating asset?

We don't know how any conjectural CGT on a main home would be calculated but based on the example of stamp duty there is no reason to expect to be fair or rational.
  • Earlier this afternoon, I was sipping down my gin & tonic with Mrs LM and her glass of Champagne, washing down our smoked salmon and lobster canapes.

We were celebrating the extra £200 each that nice Mr Osbourne has given us both. The £1,000 tax free interest. This will cover the £680 a year interest we were both 'gifted' by George in his last budget.

Glancing at today's Private Eye, I was struck by a cartoon and immediately thought of Toastie. I imagined him dipping his stale bread soldiers into his diluted tap water, and seething about the generation gap.

Us boomers have a kind heart, and think about those less fortunate than ourselves so I thought I would share this hilarious cartoon in an attempt to cheer him up.
