If you are chasing the cheap quotes online you are not buying a 'good working relationship', you are buying a transaction.

    It is 2 different things.

Where did I say I'm chasing cheap quotes? You are putting words in my mouth.

I am after a decent service at a reasonable price.

I know I can get cheaper quotes than the cheapest one I've got so far but I don't want to get cheap and nasty.

You left a clue in your post.

got a quote form a company called Homeward Legal which uses a panel of solictors. And their quote so far is the cheapest by a margin

The point I am hoping to make is that the offer of out of town solicitors/conveyancers and companies like Homeward Legal is not the relationship based service you alluded to your posts.

Expect to pay several hundred pounds difference as your search has identified.

But I didn't say I was looking for the cheapest online quote. I got a few quotes and these guys (who had good reviews) came in as the cheapest.

Obviously you still get to build a relationship with the solicitors they use so it's not like I'm just dealing with a contact centre.

As I have mentioned if it's more than couple of hundred pounds, I am not sure I can justify using them unless there are good independent reviews (not my mortgage advisor or estate agent).

I suspect the price differential will be well over £200.

Homeward Legal are simply introducing you to one of the large national companies that transact hundreds if not thousands of cases a week.

For that type of service you would expect to pay

£750 to £900 for the legal costs (depending on the distributors margin)

    £300 to £330 for disbursements

    £7,750 SDLT

Fair enough. Do you think it's worth paying 500 pounds more for a local solicitor firm?

From the research I've done, there are happy and unhappy clients for both types of services. A local solicitor might not be much quicker and in the end might cost a lot more money?

For prices, just contact them for a quote. The prices are fairly standard.

I personally put more trust in a local firm whose building I can see and and also cover more than just conveyancing.

It's personal preference, but everytime I have used a conveyancer, I have never thought about saving a few hundred to go online, simply because I have a preference to deal with someone local and tangible.

The two I listed for Ealing and well established and well known firms in the area.
  • hi did you use homeward legal ? any reviews most welcome
