I think continued fiscal restraint would be well advised, but I feel that we could probably afford to loosen the purse strings slightly for key infrastructure projects that will pick up some of what has been ignored over the last 5 years.
There's a difference between restraint and penny pinching, as we all know

Dear Diary,
Despite a bad month so far as the savings total goes (I think the end figure was £547), I have made sure I put the usual £30 away this week in the hope it will keep some motivation for saving money. I'm hoping business will pick up over this month and that some work I'm doing to attract new music pupils will be fruitful.
Unfortunately, I've done nothing to the house as I am unwell but Mrs. K. and our son have managed to spend a little time in the garden transferring the seedlings into individual pots in the green house. Hopefully they will be ready to plant properly soon. The only positive side to being unwell means the work for my course is coming along better than expected and I am considering what to study after next year.

You surprise me.
Onto more important points, did you look at the piano syllabus in the end?2018 totals:

Dear Diary,
Today has flown so quickly, yet I don't appear to have done a lot apart from buying a couple of violins, handing some coursework in and going to an Indian. That really is quite reminiscent of my student days.No big night out afterwards and the four year old tagging along prevented me giving all my attention to my date. Not sure the girl was that impressed with my inability to hear anything properly or the complaints about my sinuses, just my type she was too. Well, I guess I'm just lucky the girl is my wife.
Onto the house, I'm pleased to say I've made some progress on the windows, done a little work on the garden whilst wondering if my mystery illness is hay fever and Mrs. K. has spent some time taking doors off the kitchen units and stripping the nasty old varnish off them.

You're sounding chipper :T.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Dear Diary,
Had a few days off posting on here but have made some progress on the savings front with a further £300 added, hoping for some more to be added in May too. Business is still quiet yet I am unsure why, hopefully it will pick up over the coming months, else I will likely have to try to make some significant changes.
Yesterday was spent staying up as long as I could but I only managed to stay awake until 2.30am, so missed a lot of the election results. However, I hadn't imagined in my wildest dreams we'd have a Tory majority; my guess was a Labour minority / coalition. I'm pleased I was wrong though.

I think you're the first person to say that on MFW! :rotfl:

I presume your new MP is SNP? I hope you haven't got the 20 year old one or the "Scottish lion". :rotfl:
Conservative policy is generally about cutting taxes and unnecessary government expenditure for the benefit of business in a free market economy. So, I can't say I understand why so many on here seem opposed to a Tory government when the party is associated with taking personal responsibility (surely a fundamental part of MFW?). In fact, I fail to see how this is anything other than beneficial to the majority of the population?2018 totals:
