Managing a Woolwich mortgage online?

We took out a Woolwich/Barclays mortgage in December and want to manage the mortgage account online through online banking. We have no Barclays bank accounts.
Tried registering online as per the Woolwich website's instructions and keep getting an error code. "64 - Sorry, we're having trouble registering you online. Please call us on 0345 600 2323 (outside the UK dial +44 2476 842063) quoting error code 64."
Husband telephoned the helpdesk and was passed from pillar to post for over half an hour. Helpdesk repeatedly asking for a sort code and then saying it's the mortgage team who need to help, mortgage team passing back to the helpdesk, etc, etc. Finally get through to someone in England and he explains the issue and that he keeps getting passed back and forth. This guy goes off to investigate and eventually says you can't register for online banking with just a mortgage, and that we should have had a mortgage current account set up alongside the mortgage that would have a sort code and account number. Or we would have to set up a new current account, register for online banking, then associate our mortgage with that... What a farce!
Anyway, looking again on the registration page I think he's talking rubbish. On the application form you have to select account type, either current account OR mortgage. And the little help icon says "If you only have a mortgage with us, choose this option.
This means you don't have any type of current account with us. If your mortgage arrangement came with a mortgage current account, you'll need to choose the 'current account' option.". So clearly it is possible to register just a mortgage!
So fed up of trying it now and getting nowhere. Has anyone had any success with this? :wall:

Not sure what you can do other than may be go into a branch. You should have an account as they open them alongside the mortgage. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I was given the Mortgage Current Account with my Woolwich mortgage last November, I have no money in it and no overdraft facility. To be honest, I've already forgotten it exists.
I managed to register for the online banking with just my Mortgage details. I seem to remember that the only number I needed was my mortgage reference number. I then rather annoyingly had to wait for one of the access passwords (think it was a number?) to be sent by post, but online it let me get to that stage, and continue once I had that PIN.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Without a bank account how do expect to manage the mortgage online?
Or to ask the question a different way what do you expect to manage online?0 -

I was able to set up a regular overpayment using the online facility, and I don't bank with Barclays/Woolwich.
I also find it interesting (yes, I'm sad!) to see my balance go down each month.
Maybe the OP wants the same?:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

I had the same situation a couple of weeks ago, fortunately I obviously got a more clued up telephone operator who did the registration for me on the phone - though I had to wait for a code to be sent through the post.
After all that it turned out I had forgotten about the mortgage current account they created when I took out the mortgage years ago, eventually I found the card in my filing cabinet so is it possible that like me you just forgot about the mortgage current account?
If not I guess whether it's worth opening it depends on whether you can live with using the telephone banking system to set up over payments or make one off payments? I haven't tried using either facility yet - that'll be next months adventure.0 -
If you have the details of the mortgage account you should be able to do faster payments from any other bank to the mortgage no need for on-line access.
Check you mortgage current accounts for any reserve OD limits, SVR borrowing on tap, might be cheaper than other borrowing.0 -
I opened a Barclays current account a couple of years ago to benefit from the loyalty mortgage.
I never use it and tried to log into it a couple of days ago but found out my PIN has been locked on my debit card so I need to go into a branch.
Can you actually manage your mortgage online eg change product or can you just view the balance?0 -

I think all I can do with mine is see the balance and payment details. I don't think I can actually manage it online.(Nearly) dunroving0 -

You can set up a regular overpayment, or make a one-off lump sum payment. I haven't tried either so can't say how easy it is.
When your fixed rate ends you can apply for a new product online regardless of whether you have registered for online banking or not. They send you a specific URL tailored to your circumstances a couple of months before the fixed rate ends.0 -
I have a Woolwich/Barclays mortgage which was an old ING Mortgage. I have activated my online account. You can set up regular overpayments and underpayments on that site, and if you want to pay any on off payments its shows the sort code and account number of your mortgage account so just make a payments via your current account (i'm with HSBC)
The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't show you your running overpayment balance, just the monthly over payment figure0
