It's actually quite a few thousand points as I have never spent them before. Can I just use them for money off my shopping? (I know that's not recommended with Tesco points.) There's nothing in particular I need, no days out, don't want vouchers for anything etc. So if I just get money off my food shopping is that a good way to spend them? Thanks.

Edit - They have all been accumulated whilst shopping at Sainsbury's.

If you really don't want to get anything in the way of money off entertainment etc, then spending them at Sainsbury's seems logical rather than hoarding them for no reason.

Be aware that if you spend them at Sainsbury's you do not receive further Nectar points on the amount covered by the vouchers.

There is also a suggestion that there will be a doubling (or more) of points to spend towards the end of this month. So perhaps you could wait till that happens in case there are things you would want to buy which would be included.
  • wait two weeks and u can get double the value

I always collect my Nectar points and save them up to buy birthday presents throught the year or save them up for something I would like but cant justify spending my money on. It make me feel like I have got it free. At the moment I have a few thousand saved up since 1st January but I am thinking of the double up.

There is a double up event coming up as others have mentioned where you can double up for household items, electricals, baby stuff and a couple of other categories, I think it is from 18-31 March. Or you can use them for Argos or even use them on ebay.

They have recently started accepting them for fuel too. Unfortunately you need to pre register the card at the fuel station you intend to use by making a purchase 24 hrs prior to using the points. Suppose this is to try to combat fraud.

I don't think it is fraud. Just something leftover from older till technology. Originally (10-15 years ago) the Nectar system wasn't very well networked between the stores and although you could collect at any store you could only see you balance and spend at your home store. At some point the updated it so stores you visit frequently show your balance and allow you to spend. I think now all stores can now recall your balance and allow you to spend points, as the network between stores & servers allows for daily updates better. But it sounds like petrol stations still aren't updated.

I have used points to buy gift cards before . Amazon are great and you can get almost anything.
Some cashiers are iffy about buying cards with points but I have never been refused.

Ok, lots to think about, thanks. I was worried about just spending them on food as I know it's best not to do that with Tesco points, and I didn't know if it was similar with these.

But my Tesco points are a whole other thread...
