Can't understand a roofing quote

Hi,
I could really use some help with a builder's quote I can't understand.
I have a roof with leaky front elevation. The tiles will need to be stripped and the current felting needs to be removed. Then a new membrane will need to be placed, new batons and the tiles will need to put back on. Most are fine, a few will need to be replaced.
The quote is as follows (verbatim):
To stripping the existing pantiles and lathes and removing all rubbish from site. To refixing the best of those tiles salvages, allowing for making up with secondhand pantiles taken from our stocks, subject to availability. On and including 50x25 tanalised roofing battens and Glidevale VP400 breather membrane. Including for drilling and nailing all perimeter and every third course of pantile and for refixing the existing ridge tiles. Including for one stretch of type 5u felt to the eaves. Including for the supply of all sand and cement and scaffolding which will be necessary.
For the sum of: £2,204
Extra-over to supply and fix new Code 4 lead flashings to the chimney stack and abutment walls and for making good to the rendering as necessary.
For the sum of: £263
Would you please note that the above price does not include for any timberwork, brickwork or leadwork other than stated. The above price will be subject to VAT at the current rate and will be fixed until 31st December 2007 after which date we shall require to requote.
Dayworks: Hourly Rate Tiler £35 Hourly Rate Labourer £25 Materials: 25%

Basically using proper names for the necessary products ie pantiles = tiles, tanalised roofing battens = lathes etc. Get some more quotes. I recently had some roofing work done and got 4 quotes Dearest £1469 + vat (Builder) Cheapest £342 + vat(Roofer). Guess which one I used. A further point 2 of the quotes were from roofers out of yellow pages the one I used was recommended. He didn't advertise, he got his work by word of mouth and did an excellent job, so if you know someone who has had work done ask them if they would recommend. Never use a builder for a roofing job try to use a Roofing firm rather than a building firm,0

Remove all the tiles - salvage those which are reusable.
Remove all battens (batons are used by majorettes!)
Remove old felt
Fit new battens 25mm by 50mm - tanalised means treated to prevent rot - a GOOD thing. The timber will be green/brownish.
Fit new felt which will be to a BS standard - google for the type he is using.
Fit tiles - those salvaged from you and others fom his stores
All tiles to the edges will be fixed, every tile on every third row will be fixed - he should use galvanised nails. The others will fit over the battens and rest on the rows below.
Remove ridge tiles and reseat on new mortar once 5U felt has been fitted (these are tiles at the top of the roof and look like inverted Vs).
He'll also relead around the chimney to prevent water coming in and will render if it is damaged.
Sounds a comprehensive quote - just need to check he does what he says!0 -
That's great, thanks guys.
I've had some difficulty getting people to come out, this quote is one of three that I've had.
One for GBP7000 (builder)
One for GBP4500 (roofer) - comes with a 10 yr insurance backed warranty
And this one for GBP3000 - still need to check things like warranty.0
