Faulty New Vauxhall Mokka
Hopefully someone can help me with this:
I ordered a brand new Vauxhall Mokka four weeks ago and picked it up three weeks ago today, whilst travelling from work earlier today, I attempted to change gear but found the gear was stuck in 4th, I called out the AA who advised the gear box needs replacing, I haven't even made the 1st payment on this car, can I cancel the pcp after three weeks as the car is faulty?

You have to give the dealer an opportunity to fix the car.0

Get it taken back to the dealer. Its more likely that its something easier than the whole gearbox failed. Maybe just a linkage.
Some breakdown guys are quite good but others are rubbish at diagnosing faults. Maybe he didnt fancy trying to fix it so said its a major fault to get onto an easier job or time to go home.

New cars do breakdown.
Get it sent back to the dealer, its under warranty and they should do all they can to resolve it for you.
in regards to the gearbox failing, you never know, my friend bought a new alfa and wen 6 miles in the car and the engine snapped its belt some years ago. mistakes like this happen in the building of all products and cars are not immune from this also.0 -
A single fault, although major, isn't enough to reject the car, upsetting though it is. Warranty clearly covers this, and a sensible dealer will offer a courtesy car as a gesture of goodwill. Chances are it is not a fundamental failure, but it needs a proper diagnosis.
Who knows what fault might be present on a replacement?
However if you get further faults, you have not lost the opportunity to reject by allowing it to be repaired this time.0 -

Technically not if you're going to reject it at this stage.
Major fault when you havent yet deemed to have "accepted" the vehicle and you could reject.
BUT, the dealer may not accept that rejection, and therefore you're into a whole handling session.0 -

I'd be with you on this totally.0 -

You would have lost the opportunity to reject through non acceptance of faulty goods, however as you say, you could still reject the car at a later date for a persistent problem, but its harder to do.0 -
if the problem is a gearbox fault, then what is the problem with accepting a replacement gearbox under warranty?
You have no entitlement to a replacement vehicle or a refund at this stage. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I think my old car had a gearbox change early in its life. It was the best gearbox i have used and had non of the baulky sticky gearchanges issues that plagued a lot of those cars.
It was better than the gearbox on my newer car.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
