Have been under a cardiac consultant for heart valve problems for the last 6 months and after all the test I have had been told there will now be a M D T meeting with my presence to discuss possible Mitral valve surgery
Has any one attended one of these and what happens apart from the doctors agreeing on the best treatment plan for me.Do I get a chance to ask questions and alternative treatment options as I need to start writing down questions that I have as sods law on the day I wont be able to remember any thing.Interested in any one elses experience in these situations.Thanks

Mdt involve all the people who are going to care for you and set out a plan for your care. Usually these are for cases which are serious, rare or have high risk. They want to make sure everything is covered.i would imagine you will be able to ask questions after all it's about you. You will be able to meet new people that will care for you. Express concerns and any requests you have.Mortgage free wannabe

Thanks so is it normal for the patient to be present in the meeting because at my last consultation I was told just the doctors get together as a team to decide the best treatment plan0

Usually the meeting happens beforehand and then you'll see your consultant to discuss the outcome.

I've not had heart surgery but I have had other forms of treatment. If I were given the option of different treatments or my opinion on treatment, assuming the main queries on what exactly is this operation doing to me and recovery times, I would have three main questions;
1. What are the downsides/side effects to this treatment and how will you help/will you be able to help when I experience these.
2. What happens if this goes wrong; what will the support for this be like.
3. What support is there following the operation/treatment.0 -
Feel free to attend with a list of questions and a notebook to record anything of interest.0

You Indicate you will be there then you say your not. I would check with the consultant . Keep a notebook of questions and write down the answers as it will be good to look back at if your concerned. I haven't attended an mdt as a patient but have as a student nurse on a ward.Mortgage free wannabe
